I had been self-coaching for the last years through some tough exams to get an international mountain guiding qualification. However, in the last 8 months things had taken a turn for the worse: after a broken leg, the training committee had given me an ultimatum. I had to pass my remaining exams at my next go, or be kicked off the scheme.

My dreams of working in the mountains looked on the edge of being just that, dreams.
